Adventure Trans Himalayan Treks organized an incredible Everest Base Camp trek! The guides were knowledgeable, the logistics seamless, and the views breathtaking. A truly unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!
The Everest Base Camp trek is considered a moderate to challenging trek. While it does not require technical climbing skills, the high altitude, long daily hikes, and unpredictable weather make it physically demanding. Trekkers should be prepared for daily walks of 5-8 hours over varying terrain, including steep ascents and descents. Proper acclimatization and physical preparation are crucial for a successful trek.
The standard Everest Base Camp trek takes around 12 to 14 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. This includes acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche to help adjust to the altitude. Our itinerary at Adventure Trans Himalayan Treks ensures a well-paced trek, balancing adventure with safety.
The best seasons for trekking to Everest Base Camp are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these periods, the weather is stable, with clear skies and moderate temperatures. Winter (December to February) is extremely cold, and monsoon (June to August) brings heavy rain and slippery trails, making the trek more challenging.
Prior trekking experience is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended. The trek requires good physical fitness and stamina. If you are new to trekking, we suggest starting with smaller hikes and endurance training before attempting EBC. Our team at Adventure Trans Himalayan Treks can provide training recommendations to help you prepare.
Trekkers need two main permits:
Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit
Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit
Our team at Adventure Trans Himalayan Treks will arrange all necessary permits for you, ensuring a hassle-free experience.
Accommodation on the EBC trek consists of teahouses (lodges), which provide basic rooms with twin beds, blankets, and shared bathrooms. In major stops like Namche Bazaar, some lodges offer hot showers, Wi-Fi, and charging facilities (for an extra fee). The higher you go, the more basic the facilities become.
Teahouses along the trail offer a variety of local and international meals. Common dishes include dal bhat (lentils and rice), noodles, soups, momo (dumplings), pasta, eggs, and porridge. While meat is available, we recommend eating vegetarian meals for better hygiene and digestion at high altitudes. Our guides ensure that trekkers have access to nutritious and hygienic food throughout the journey.
In case of severe altitude sickness or injury, helicopter evacuation is the quickest way to descend. Our guides are trained in first aid and will monitor your health closely. Having comprehensive travel insurance is crucial for covering helicopter rescue costs.
Yes, travel insurance is mandatory for the Everest Base Camp trek. It should cover high-altitude trekking (up to 5,500m), emergency evacuation, and medical expenses. Adventure Trans Himalayan Treks requires all trekkers to provide insurance details before starting the trek.
Most teahouses offer Wi-Fi services for an extra fee, but the connection may be slow and unreliable at higher altitudes. Charging electronic devices is possible at teahouses for a small fee. We recommend bringing a power bank and extra batteries.
While solo trekking is possible, hiring a licensed guide and porter enhances your safety and experience. Guides provide navigation, cultural insights, and first aid assistance, while porters help carry luggage, reducing your physical strain. At Adventure Trans Himalayan Treks, we provide experienced and knowledgeable guides to ensure a smooth and enjoyable trek.
Altitude sickness (Acute Mountain Sickness – AMS) is a serious concern on the EBC trek. To minimize the risk:
Acclimatize properly – Our itinerary includes rest days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche.
Hydrate well – Drink at least 3-4 liters of water daily.
Ascend gradually – Avoid rapid altitude gain.
Listen to your body – If you experience symptoms like headaches, dizziness, nausea, or breathlessness, inform your guide immediately.
Our experienced guides at Adventure Trans Himalayan Treks are trained in altitude sickness management and will assist you throughout the trek.
Packing the right gear is essential. A basic checklist includes:
Clothing: Thermal layers, fleece jacket, down jacket, waterproof jacket and pants, trekking pants, moisture-wicking t-shirts, gloves, warm hat, and gaiters.
Footwear: Waterproof trekking boots, woolen socks, and camp shoes.
Accessories: Sleeping bag (-10°C to -20°C), trekking poles, sunglasses, headlamp, and sunscreen.
Health & Hygiene: First aid kit, personal medications, water purification tablets, and hand sanitizer.
Our team provides a detailed packing list upon booking, ensuring you have everything you need.
