Kumar Gurung is celebrating his 60th birthday AND 45 years in the Nepali tourism industry. Join him on top of Island Peak (6165 meters) this 28 June, 2024.
Kumar started his trekking career in 1979, at the young age of 15 with Annapurna Trekking & Mountaineering (Amtrek). In 1984, the chief of staff, Mr. Bikran Pandey Kaji Nuwakot, promoted Kumar to guide for Everest Arun Valley trek starting from Dharan Fusrekhola.
Kumar has led trips in Himalaya Nepal, Tibet, Ladakh, Sikkim, India and Bhutan. He fluently speaks English, French and Hindi and has conversational skills in several other languages, Kumar has taken basic and advanced Mountaineering Training courses from the NMA and trekking guide training from NATHAAM-Kathmandu. He has led many training courses for new trekking guides in Balaju natural cliffs as the lead trainer.
After working for several well-known trekking agencies he started his own trekking business in 2010, Adventure Trans Himalayan Treks & Expeditions.
Kumar's professionalism, kindness and experience has made a leader in the trekking and tourism industry of Nepal.
He has done most of the GHT and looks forward to completing the entire trip in the near future.

The summit date of Island Peak is set for 28 June, 2024. To get to Island Peak there are 4 different trekking options (Everest High Passes, Gokyo Lakes/Chola Pass, EBC & Peak, or direct to Island Peak).
