A shorter but stunning trek today leads you to Kyanjin Gompa, the spiritual heart of the Langtang region. You’ll return to Kyanjin Gompa in the afternoon, feeling accomplished and inspired by the vast Himalayan landscapes. Overnight at a guesthouse in Kyanjin Gompa.
Retracing your steps, you descend through the Langtang Valley, passing through Langtang Village and Ghora Tabela. The Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Trek is a stunning and culturally rich journey through the heart of the Langtang National Park, north of Kathmandu. This trek combines the scenic beauty of Langtang Valley, home to Tamang and Tibetan-influenced villages, with the sacred alpine lakes of Gosaikunda, revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. The route offers dramatic contrasts—from dense pine and rhododendron forests to alpine meadows, glacial moraines, and tranquil mountain lakes. With Adventure Trans Himalayan Treks, you will explore this remote yet accessible region with expert guides who provide insight into local traditions and natural wonders.
This trek is considered moderate to challenging, depending on the route taken and weather conditions. The Langtang Valley section is suitable for trekkers with a moderate level of fitness, while the ascent to Gosaikunda Lake (4,380 meters) and the Lauribina La Pass (4,610 meters) adds a more strenuous high-altitude component. While previous trekking experience is helpful, it’s not required. At Adventure Trans Himalayan Treks, we provide well-paced itineraries that allow for proper acclimatization and offer support throughout the trek to ensure your safety and comfort.
The combined Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda trek typically takes around 13 to 16 days, depending on your pace, acclimatization needs, and whether you include side trips such as Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri for panoramic views. We also offer flexible options—some clients choose to trek only the Langtang Valley or Gosaikunda sections independently. At Adventure Trans Himalayan Treks, we customize itineraries to suit your timeframe and trekking goals.
The best seasons to trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these times, the skies are generally clear, the trails are dry, and the mountain views are breathtaking. Spring brings blooming wildflowers and rhododendrons, while autumn offers cool temperatures and festive cultural experiences in the villages. Gosaikunda, being a sacred site, is especially popular during Janai Purnima, a Hindu festival in August, when thousands of pilgrims make the journey.
For this trek, you will need a Langtang National Park Entry Permit and a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card. If you're combining both Langtang and Gosaikunda, these two permits cover your entire route. At Adventure Trans Himalayan Treks, we include all permit arrangements in our trek packages, so you won’t need to worry about logistics or standing in lines in Kathmandu.
Accommodation during the trek is provided in teahouses—simple yet cozy lodges operated by local families. Rooms are typically twin-sharing, and while basic, they offer a warm bed and friendly atmosphere. Food includes a variety of Nepali, Tibetan, and continental dishes such as dal bhat (lentils and rice), noodles, soups, potatoes, and pancakes. Our guides ensure that meals are hygienic and suited to your dietary preferences where possible.
Altitude sickness can be a concern, especially when ascending beyond 3,000 meters, particularly around Gosaikunda and Lauribina La Pass. Our itineraries are designed with gradual elevation gain and acclimatization days in mind. Our guides are trained in first aid and altitude sickness response, and we carry necessary medications. Staying hydrated, eating properly, and ascending at a steady pace are key to avoiding symptoms. We are fully prepared to make route adjustments or organize emergency evacuation if needed.
Since the trek involves varying terrain and temperatures, you should pack a combination of light and warm layers, including a down jacket, thermal base layers, a waterproof shell, gloves, a warm hat, and sturdy trekking boots. A sleeping bag rated to -10°C, sunscreen, water purification tablets, and trekking poles are also recommended. We’ll provide a detailed packing list when you book with us and can assist you in renting or buying gear in Kathmandu.
